Test Your Loyale-ty

LOYALE

Loyale makes this classic Barstow bikini out of 100% organic cotton pointelle and bamboo. It comes in different colors, so you don't show up at the beach wearing the exact same bikini as that other girl with her stupid perfect tan and white teeth... what? Um, so yeah, get yourself one of these, in Peach, or Black, just to be different.

Major Machja

MACHJA

J'adore Machja's organic swimsuits. This Corsican eco-friendly company, run out of France, uses fair trade labor- these bikinis are made by well-fed nuns in India! How cool/creepy!

I remember going to France when I was neuf years old and the women wore children's bikinis, with or without the top part. I was traumatized. But now they have no excuse for such naked nakidity, because these suits are really beautiful, and should be worn. In fact, some people should probably wear deux or trois of them, to make up for all that lost bikini-wearing time.

Cohen In, The Water'sWarm

ANNA COHEN

I lived in Portland for a while, and I never heard of anyone wearing any bikinis, but if they did, perhaps they were lucky enough to get their hands on one of Portland designer Anna Cohen's stylish eco-friendly bikinis made from rescued fabric (factory surplus.) So, she goes to the swimsuit factory in downtown Oregon and gathers up the scraps of fabric that are just big enough to cover your "down theres" and fashions them into these tasteful but sexy suits. Ingenious!

Swimming In Meadow

MEADOW

She makes sweet swimsuits from rescued mill ends- fabric that might otherwise go to waste, which would be a shame, because they really do make some of the cutest eco-friendly bikinis out there.

Unfortunately, she doesn't appear to be selling anything in her etsy store, but you can still find her stuff here:

Kelly B.ikini

KELLY BARRY

There is something about Kelly B.’s simple designs that just makes so much sense, you wonder why you didn’t think of them yourself. Her swimsuits were some of the first eco-friendly ones out there, and are still some of the cutest, best made suits available. I have the black one and it is too nice to waste on my pool, so I’m saving it for the ocean, if I ever go to the ocean. Which I won’t, because I have a pool.

But you should get one, and wear yours to the ocean. Give the dolphins a treat- they deserve it.

Hard work, being dolphins...

Come Swim In My Meadow

MEADOW

A meadow? In Miami? Sure, why not! Meadow is woman/line of clothing whose naturalistic name suites her lovely line of eco-clothes, made from hemp, organic cotton, bamboo, soy, tencel, and recycled fabrics. Diverse, interesting, she is an eco-force to be reckoned with, and not just because she is one of the very few green brands to make an eco-friendly swimsuit (you know, for swimming?)

In fact, I'm going to tell you all about her swimsuits... later, when it isn't freezing out (which by LA standards means temps have dipped below eighty and people here just don't know how to drive in slightly cool weather- they freak out and run into things,). So I don't want to further distract them with images of sunbathing in awesome, fashionable, sexy, sustainable swimwear, by Meadow- it will just have to wait for spring, which is going to be great this year, I can feel it.
